Green tree fruit, delicate quince, citrus, fresh spring fields & a handful of fresh herbs with a touch of gunflint & chalky mineral.
Winemaker's notes: 100% pinot blanc from the Leithaberg DAC – a region with a delightful thumbprint of “savoury and intensely mineral” wines. Grapes are all hand-picked and sorted, and undergo gentle pressing. Spontaneous fermentation occurs in neutral oak, where the resulting wine ages – for an extended period of time sur lie, as are all wines at LG – before being bottled unfiltered.
Why we love it: If there’s a “flagship” white at Lichtenberger González, this is it. A classic herbal-meets-reduction Pinot Blanc, this wine is seemingly never-ending and ever-changing. Upon opening in the first two weeks of release, the same wine shows breadth of fruit and intense mineral concentration – giving the wine real weight on a relatively delicate frame (13% abv but no oak influence). The pinnacle of freshness-meets-concentration that makes these wines so magical. Decant for the real magic.
“Brutal tension with cool, mineral brilliance: a Pinot Blanc that is more reminiscent of Jura or Burgundy” Or we might say, the best this (Leithaberg) region has to offer!
